If you have a physical or psychological disorder it is possible to go deep within and talk directly with it, either by oneself or with the help of a trusted adult or therapist.  Whether it is a simple rash, psoriasis, arthritis, or cancer - it has a voice if you give it one!  A technique I used was to go within and ask to meet the illness.

It is very important to take notes afterwards because then a natural progression can be seen with continued work.  Go deep within through a process of deep breathing, then ask to meet the illness.  Give the ilness shape, colour, form, smell, and movement.  Does the affliction cause pain and if so what does it feel like - stabbing, aching throbbing? Ask some of the following questions:

  • When did you enter my body?
  • Why did you enter my body?
  • What do you want from me?
  • What do I have to do in order for you to leave?
  • What can it teach you while it is in your body?

Next place your hands in the affected area (in the case of psychological difficulties place hands on the head) and imagine heat coming from the ground through your body into your hands and onto the chosen area.  Decide what form of love is most suitable (e.g. healing, compassion, nurturing, etc) and channel this into the area. Do this for as long as possible and then rest.

The real work then begins.  With the knowledge you received create a storyline of your illness and its affects on your life, create a drama, a picture or painting - put it out into reality.  You want to understand the illness from its own perspective (strange as it may sound) and thus slowly take power away from it and back into your own hands.  Then either decide to try and heal yourself alone or else ask for help.  If the illness is anywhere serious I do not recommend going it alone.  Releasing the past and confronting daily negative life patterns can be exhausting, exhilerating and profound all at once.

There are many methods of releasing and no doubt you will find the one that suits your own personal requirements whether it be guided visualisation, ritual, breath, rebirthing, bodywork, drama, art, counselling, flower essences and homeopathy.  Processing the information may be painful but once released leads to more questions being asked, such as:

  • Who am I?
  • What do I want in my life?
  • What is my purpose for existing?
  • What masks do I show to present myself to the world?
  • Is there joy and ecstasy in my life and if not how can I go about getting some?
  • Am I honest with myself and others at all times?
  • What changes do I have to make - no matter how radical?
